Coast Electric Power Association President and CEO Bob Occhi was honored recently by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) with a Regional Award for Outstanding Service.
Occhi was recognized at NRECA’s Regional Meeting in South Carolina that brought together leaders from cooperatives in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. He was one of two co-op leaders to be recognized for his contributions to the industry.
Recipients of Awards for Outstanding Service are chosen based on their service to electric cooperatives at the state and regional levels. Honorees must have demonstrated remarkable leadership and must have worked to advance the prosperity of electric cooperatives to benefit rural Americans.
Kevin Doddridge, the CEO of North Central Electric Power Association in Olive Branch, Miss., spoke at the event, noting Occhi’s 43 years of service to Coast Electric and its members. Doddridge said, “In that time, you have instituted many technical innovations – even last year when your co-op made investments in solar. You have represented the co-op and your state in many advocacy initiatives.” Doddridge also stated that, “Your leadership in recovering from Hurricane Katrina was a model for all utilities.”
“In my years here at Coast Electric, we have always remained true to our mission to provide excellent service to the people of south Mississippi and to improve the quality of life here. With that as our guide, we have been able to advocate for those we serve and accomplish great things for our members,” said Occhi. “I am honored to receive this award from NRECA. We will continue to work for our members and make advances that are beneficial to those we serve.”
