Coast Electric names Ron Barnes new President and CEO

About Ron Barnes
Ron Barnes has been named the President and CEO of Coast Electric Power Association, headquartered in Hancock County. Barnes will lead the cooperative that serves 80,000 meters in Pearl River, Hancock and Harrison counties.

While Barnes will be new to the role, he is no stranger to Coast Electric members or Gulf Coast residents. For the past 21 years, he has served as the company’s Vice President of Marketing, Member Services and Public Relations. Barnes is also an active leader in the community and has served in such positions as Gulf Coast Community Foundation board chairman, Gulf Coast Chamber board member, Leadership Gulf Coast board chairman and United Way of South Mississippi board chairman, among many others.

If you ask Barnes what motivates him to lead, he will never mention trophies or awards, even though he has quite a few. Instead, he will talk to you about service to others and his desire to make the quality of life better for his fellow south Mississippians. Some of the accolades Barnes has received include being inducted into the Roland Weeks Community Leaders Hall of Fame, being named a Top 10 Business Leader under 40 and receiving our country’s Gold Medal Presidential Volunteer Service Award. He is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi and is an active alumnus as well as being a leader at Heritage United Methodist Church.

Ron and his wife, Angel, have four children – Amy, Hayley, Emily and Taylor.

Leading Coast Electric
As the leader of Coast Electric, Barnes wants to continue to uphold the cooperative values that guide operations at Coast Electric. “I think our leaders have laid a strong foundation for the past 80 years and I want to build on that,” Barnes said. Moving forward, Barnes detailed his priorities, which include:

  • Providing reliable and affordable electric service
  • Having highly-trained, professional and friendly employees to serve members and to be responsive to member needs.
  • Improving the quality of life in our communities – through economic development, by giving back to residents through volunteerism and through environmental stewardship.
  • Fostering an environment of open communication with members and to encourage member participation in their cooperative.

“After many interviews with potential candidates Ron Barnes exhibited that he is a great communicator and a natural leader,” said Coast Electric Board President Gil Arceneaux. “He is well poised to take Coast Electric to the next level and beyond.”
