Maintaining Reliability

Coast Electric maintains an outage reporting service (Dispatch Center) seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Dispatch Center is focused on limiting the amount of outage time for our members and becomes the focus when outages or other emergencies occur. Dispatchers use the uaDispatch/uaNet outage management system along with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) to handle outages. These computerized graphical systems allow dispatchers and system control personnel to observe outages and find the problem’s source. When dispatchers have the correct information, they can then contact a serviceman or line crew to correct the problem. System Engineer Jeremy Bond said, “The uaNet is an amazing tool that has helped streamline Coast Electric’s day to day operations. The system signifies a tremendous step forward for Coast Electric in terms of technology and reliability.”

In the event of an outage the uaNet enables dispatchers to view outages on an interactive map. The system automatically logs outages and predicts the outage cause. In addition, dispatchers monitor the SCADA substation monitoring system and the CENTURION automatic phone system.
