New Electric Water Heater Efficiency Standards in Effect

A new rule issued by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which takes effect April 16, 2015, updates the National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA) standards. NAECA was established in 1990 and is periodically updated by the U.S. DOE. This most recent rule change has the greatest effect on water heaters larger than 55 gallons, as they will now be required to use heat pump technology to reach approximately 200 percent efficiency.
